Overview
Adel G. El-Ghazzawy, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in minimally invasive surgeries using advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He is a trained and certified console surgeon on da Vinci® Single-Site™ platform and the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System including the EndoWrist platform. He has a special interest in laparoscopic and robotic hernia repairs and he has performed thousands of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs over the past 17 years.
He also performs open traditional hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery, hemorrhoid surgery, colon and intestinal surgery, appendectomy, anti-reflux surgery, para-esophageal hernia repair, adrenalectomy, abdominal cancer surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, surgical treatment of melanoma and other skin cancers, breast disease surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, soft tissue mass resections, and splenectomy.
Dr. El-Ghazzawy’s goal as a surgical consultant is to educate his patients so that they can make involved and informed decisions about the available treatment options. He constantly investigates and vets the latest technologies and treatment modalities. He also brings years of surgical experience to his practice in order to optimize the safest solutions to these complex problems in an individualized and personalized approach.
With Dr. Eiji Minami, he has pioneered minimally invasive and robotic general surgery in the Puget Sound area, introducing robotic techniques in December of 2012. He has practiced at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, Washington since 2001, where he has held several leadership positions including Trauma Medical Director and Credentials Committee Chair and Member of the Medical Executive Committee. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and he is married with three children. He and his family enjoy travel, watersports, and experimenting in the kitchen. He is also fluent in Spanish.
